Photo exhibit on Iran Revolution on display in Tehran

A photo exhibition showcasing the first decade of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Revolution is on display in the capital city of Tehran.

A photo exhibition showcasing the decade of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Revolution, starting in the late 1970’s, has been put on display in the capital city of Tehran.

Veteran photojournalist Kaveh Kazemi’s artwork is being featured at an exhibit titled ‘Revolutionaries: the First Decade’ at the Aaran Projects gallery in Tehran from May 19-June 9.

A book has also been published and will be made available during the photo-gallery event. The book has the same title as the exhibit.

Images chosen for the exhibit and the book are part of a substantial archive of black-and-white photographs that depict a very critical time in Iran’s history after 1979 and the 1980-88 Iraq-imposed war on Iran that followed.

Kazemi studied photography in the UK and returned to Iran at the beginning of the Revolution in the fall of 1978, finding himself among the masses demanding an end to the Pahlavi monarchy.

The featured collection covers a “tempestuous decade” in Iranian contemporary history.

Nearly four decades after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, photos from the time period still evoke strong emotions from viewers, telling of some unspeakable truths and sadness.

Kazemi is represented by Getty Images, and his photos have covered many regions across the world, including Northern Ireland, Lebanon, Nicaragua, Cuba, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Syria, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Iraq.
